Linux • Preparing To Build Version 9.0

$

The notes for wine version 9.0 say "The Vulkan driver supports up to version 1.3.272 of the Vulkan spec." Does that mean a vulkan version up to and including 1.3.272 is okay? Or does it mean a vulkan version 1.3.272 or later is needed. It reads like it means the first way, but usually projects will mean it in the second way. Just making sure before I plunge ahead. Better to get the best version of vulkan first and move forward from there. Current available versions of vulkansdk back to my current version are:
1.3.280.1
1.3.280.0
1.3.275.0
1.3.268.0
1.3.261.1
1.3.250.1
I currently have 1.3.250.1 installed, maybe that is a fine version. Thanks for any help/tips, I'm excited to get version 9 built!

Also, I guess there are still wine-staging scripts to run against the version 9 branch? I think that is needed to run battle.net.

Linux • No Music in Sonic R (2004 version with mods) on Manjaro Linux

I'm having a problem with the videogame Sonic R. I Installed the mod that implements ADX Music for the game (with looping) and I already installed the Sonic R Updater (that includes this mod and other mods and the Mod Manager), but ingame, music doesn't play but sound effects does play and the other mods installed works.

Wine have any problem to load ADX files? Do i need to install something to play ADX files on Wine?

My version of Wine is 9.5

Thanks

Linux • Windows 98 Setup.exe Crashes Immeadietly

I know this is gonna sound kinda stupid, but I've been trying to get Windows 98 applications running in wine, and I was primarily interested in the actual windows system files like the desktop. But as soon as I try to start setup.exe, it immeadietly crashes, stating winevdm.exe encountered a serious error. Below is the output:

Linux • Need help connecting to MSSQL, program CAN see the db

$
0

I'm trying to help a friend get an old database program running on Linux. He's an hour away so I go down there on Sundays. I ALMOST have the program working but it just won't connect to the database.

Here's what I have so far, let me know if you need any more details.

- The original software has a MSSQL database running on a Windows Server 2003 machine on his local network.
- The client software works on Windows XP or Windows 7. I have it working on a Windows 7 machine so I should be able to copy any settings I need.
- The Linux machine is running the latest version of Manjaro with XFCE. I installed it but I don't have the machine in front of me, so if you need details, I can give those tomorrow.
- I installed the latest version of Wine last week, so everything should be up to date.

I took a few notes so here's what I did:

Code:

$ export WINEARCH=win32$ winetricks atmlib gdiplus msxml3 msxml6 vcrun2005 vcrun2005sp1 vcrun2008 ie6 fontsmooth=rgb gecko
I ran the installer but it stopped with the error:
"Setup was unable to load the following DLL: C:\users\user\Temp\{...}\_mxuser.dll"

So I fixed that with:

Code:

$ winetricks mfc42
Then it asks for the registration information and that all worked.

Next, it looks for the database on the network, but it couldn't find one and it eventually times out and says you need to have a running database etc etc.

I found this page:
https://wiki.winehq.org/Wine_User%27s_G ... BC_drivers

I couldn't find a mdac_typ.exe online that looked legit, but I found one on my friend's MSSQL server!

I copied it to the local wine folder and tried:

Code:

$ wine MDAC_TYP.EXE
but I got ""This setup does not support installing on this operating system" so I'm not sure if that was a Windows issue or a Wine issue.

Next, I tried:

Code:

$ winetricks mdac27
That seemed to install just fine so I did:

Code:

$ cd ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32$ wine cliconfg.exe$ wine odbcad32.exe
I copied the settings from the real Windows 7 machine

Now I tried the installer again, and this time IT FOUND THE DATABASE!!
- it has a little window that lists any databases it finds on the network, and it found a test database I made a while ago when we were trying to get this software working, and it found the actual working database as well!

So I thought I was home free! But no... I select the database and click Next...

Then in my Linux terminal, I just get a ton of these...

Code:

GnuTLS error: No or insufficient priorities were set.GnuTLS error: No or insufficient priorities were set.GnuTLS error: No or insufficient priorities were set.GnuTLS error: No or insufficient priorities were set.GnuTLS error: No or insufficient priorities were set.GnuTLS error: No or insufficient priorities were set.GnuTLS error: No or insufficient priorities were set.
It just seems odd that it can SEE the database but can't connect to it? I'm not sure what to do next.

At first, I thought it might be because the Windows network has a username and password but on the Linux side I already have the server mapped to drive R, and in Wine I CAN open the shared R drive.

I don't know what to try next. Any ideas would be appreciated. I'll be down at his place tomorrow, Sunday 28 April.

Thanks!

Linux • Unimplemented function NETAPI32.dll.NetGetAadJoinInformation

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to run Adobe Photoshop CC 2024 on Arch Linux with Wine 9.7
The program launches successfully and appears to work OK, but after approximately 30 seconds it crashes. The following line appears in my terminal right at the time of the crash:

Code:

wine: Call from 00006FFFFFC6DA38 to unimplemented function NETAPI32.dll.NetGetAadJoinInformation, aborting
I got this far by installing it in a Win10 VM and copying over the files (installer just shows a blank screen in Wine), also installed vcrun2022, fontsmooth=rgb, gdiplus, atmlib, msxml3, msxml6, dxvk, vkd3d. Photoshop opens and so far most of the features appear to work, I can create blank files and open existing files, brush works, surprisingly Liquify works (I've read that a lot of users have trouble with it) but I only have ~30 seconds to test the program before the Program Error happens.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

macOS • Wine randomly non-functional on Mojave 10.14.6

$

I want to pre-emptively apologise for any vagueness, because my knowledge of programming stuff is very, very basic, and I also genuinely have no idea what is going on.

I have been using Wine on my Mac for a bunch of years with little to no issue, but when I tried to use it last night for the first time in about a week, it appears to no longer be functional - when I launch an exe through Wine, my entire screen save for the cursor (and any audio) freezes so long as 'wine' is the active application. If I click away to another application, it takes a while (~30 seconds?) but will eventually unfreeze the screen and allow me to quit Wine with no issue. If I leave it be, XQuartz will instead launch after a while, but appears to hang indefinitely without opening any window or anything.

However, if I run JUST the 'wine stable.app', the same freeze happens, but it will eventually open the Wine terminal - although if I attempt to run winecfg, I get this error:

Code:

0009:err:display:macdrv_init_monitor Failed to initialize monitor
I have not recently updated my operating system, or any other program I can think of that would impact Wine. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both XQuartz and Wine, to no avail.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Linux • 32 bit app installer fails on latest releases

$

I have an old 32 bit piece of software from the late 90's that installs and runs without any problem with Wine 8.0 provided with Debian 12 Bookworm. It worked well with earlier Debian releases as well. Unfortunately, it fails with an app window titled "Critical" with the error "Unable to move data to installation directory" on later Wine releases (Debian testing/Trixie, Fedora 40, Ubuntu 24.0, the stable release on the winehq debian repo). The command and output on the installation attempt on Ubuntu 24.04 follow. I also ran with "WINEDEBUG=all wine setup.exe" but the output was rather intimidating.

Have I missed a new requirement for using the latest Wine releases? And what debug level should I use to provide a reasonable level output that will help understand what is going on?

Code:

Android • Wine Andriod Versions & Compatibility, please explain

Hi,
I'm new here and I need to know if there is a list of the devices that are compatible with each apk.

https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/android

I see lots of locked topics regarding problems installing Wine on Andriod. Does this mean that it is not possible to install on Andriod? If that is the case, what are the other options?

Linux • "inner frame" in setup program is complete white / blank

I have a problem with an installation routine whose "inner" program window simply remains white / blank (Buhl Software, Wiso mein Geld 2024). The "outer program frame" is displayed well and the usual functional windows features (buttons) are shown.

Basically the program seems to work. For example, expected inputs are queried and reported as missing, if I hit "outer frame" save/next button. I have tested the same routine in a windows hyperV-VM under the same Linux-lite version and same wine version a week ago, where the "inner program GUI" was "filled" with fields, hyperlinks etc.. Without knowing a lot about it, I would say that a "renderer" is missing and since I know some Windows programs from the "inside", I suspect an embedded ie11 or a web-browserframe component ist missing?! But I don't know enough about wine to understand which components might be missing here.

My learning curve is very steep right now, as I am new to the Linux world. So I would be grateful for any advice.

The behaviour occurs with this configuration:

Linux Lite 6.6 under Ubuntu 22.0.4 LTS (as a virtual machine) with wine 6.0.3, VGA compatible controller Red Hat, Inc. Virtio 1.0 GPU

I have tested also under Debian 12, with the same issues ("physical" machine). But I have uninstalles wine after this test, maybe it was an older version; Nvidia Quadropro 1000.

Linux • Problem running 16bit App in wine32, but works on wine 64

$

I want to run an old, 16bit, application in WINE32, which turned out to be impossible. The start of the installer already is failing with the following output at the console:

Code:

0110:err:sync:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 6C8449E0 "dlls/krnl386.exe16/syslevel.c: Win16Mutex" wait timed out in thread 0110, blocked by 0114, retrying (60 sec)
The program is running like a charm on a x64 platform running wine64, but not on a i386 platform running win32, which is quite unexpected to happen. It is calling winevdm, but then stops giving the output posted above.

I need to have it run on this old hardware (i686, Debian 12), and it worked under Win10 x32 before.

=> anyone out there having experienced such problem before?

Website Issues • Swedish characters seem broken on AppDB-site

$

Hi!

I have noticed that instead of showing the swedish umlaut-characters (å ä ö) on entries in the AppDB it instead shows diamonds with question marks in them (for example https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=20546). I am not sure when this happened but it should probably be looked in to.

Attached is an image of how it looks and I've tested this on 2 computers, one running Windows in swedish and one running Manjaro in english.

Thanks for the hard work!

Linux • Issue entering character with umlaut or ring in wineconsole

$

Hi!

I recently found issues using characters with umlauts (ö ä) or rings (å) in the wine console (a.k.a swedish characters). When I press one of these keys on my keyboard they simply does nothing in the wineconsole.
For example: the text "aböärk" would be entered as "abrk". It is possible though to copy the characters from somewhere else and paste it into wineconsole.

There is no issues listing the characters with dir command.

I have no issues using these keys anywhere else on my system (nautilus, terminal, web browsers etc).

Is this a known issue or is it maybe just me? :)

Configuration:

Code:

Linux • Error launching an .exe

Good day,
I'm not a programmer but I will try to provide as much information as possible in order you guys can help me.
I'm trying to run on LinuxMint 21.3 Cinnamon this exe: https://bvets.net/en/
In wine db I found that should be possible, with minimal issue, related to audio performance:

https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... n&iId=5020
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=41666
https://austinhuang.me/bve.html (install on mac procedure is very similiar to the linux I tried).

So I managed to get wine installed, and also installed winetricks. through winetricks I installed d3d943.dll and Net 3.5. The installation of the bve.msi has been carried out correctly. However, when I try to open the exe through wine, this error appears:

Unhandled exception: 0xe0434f4d in 32-bit code (0x7b010be6).
