Linux • Launch application with custom URI

Much like how Steam associates steam://xyz to it's application is it possible to register a custom URI in wine? Mapillary uses as part of their authentication protocol(opens chromium and prompts you for xdg-open when you click authorize) which launches a custom uri: com.mapillary.uploader://authorize?token_type=bearer&access_token=[token]

Linux • Linux Joystick Input defaults to Windows Xinput Behaviour

$

Hi all,

I'm having an issue getting a Linux joystick input to behave as a Dinput device in WINE.
This joystick shows up in the Linux /dev systems fine (both /dev/input/js* and /dev/input/event*) and tests show all inputs working.

However when running the WINE joy.cpl app this joystick is missing its (event) input (the js one does exist) and when using the joystick within a game, it registers as an xinput gamepad.

Is there a way to force WINE to not auto-assign this joystick as a gamepad? I'm mostly trying to get some simulators running and many of them can deal with both dinput and xinput devices. Generally it's preferred to still use dinput for these though as you'll have use of all your buttons/axis.

I've tried googling this issue but it seems most people have trouble getting their joystick to show as an xinput, I'm having exactly the reverse problem lol.

Linux • Sony Vegas Pro 9/11 on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Wine 5.0)

Hey, I managed to install Sony Vegas Pro 9 and Sony Vegas Pro 11 but both crash when in to run it. To install I get some stuff from winetricks: corefonts, fontfix, msxml3, msxml6, vcrun2005, vcrun2008, dotnet35sp1, quicktime76

So I can install it but it won't work, is anything missing?

While trying to run the version 11 it showed 'nvcuda.dll' was missing, but version 9 only shows some memory addresses.

Did anyone manage to make this work?

macOS • Ragnarok Private Server on Catalina

I am a total noob with wine and I wanna play an old game without using bootcamp. I followed this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0X4IJPFB9dg&t=570s which referenced me to this https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/releases. I followed the instructions to boot except that I used a ragnarok.exe client instead to run. I got it to run into the log in. However it looks like it doesn't have internet connection / cant connect to the internet. as it's returning "failed to connect to server".

Here's the log I encountered in the test run:

Linux • IVMS 4200 installation on Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS 64bit

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and realise that others have had issues with this, but I come with fresh issues. I could do with help installing and getting the program running. I have two versions of IVMS downloaded, no luck with either. (v2.6.1.11 and v3.2.0.10), I would rather try with the newer version, of course, yet the issue starts with running wine64 XXXX.exe. I get Auto-start service L "NPF" failed to start: 2

Please help, thanks!

Linux • Debugging a DotNet App.

$

Hi all,

A program I use (Hearthstone Deck Tracker) recently switched from DotNet 4.5 to DotNet 4.7.2. Unfortunately, with 4.7.2, the program hangs when started in wine.
I'd like to debug this hang, however, I am not able to get a meaningful stack trace.
Attaching with plain gdb, I can see that there are 15 threads running, however, they all basically show the same useless back trace (wine is compiled with debug info).

CODE:

(gdb) thread apply all btThread 15 (LWP 1451478):#0 0xf7f5f169 in __kernel_vsyscall ()#1 0xf7d460e7 in ?? ()#2 0x7bcc97b9 in ?? ()[...] Similar output for all other threads [...]
Well, that's probably to be expected for a windows program, although I would expect to see some wine stuff in there. However, what I get from winedbg is not very useful either. ;(

CODE:

Wine-dbg>info process pid      threads  executable (all id:s are in hex) 00000110 1        'winedbg.exe' 0000004c 4        'explorer.exe' 00000038 8        'services.exe' 00000084 6        \_ 'winedevice.exe' 0000006c 5        \_ 'plugplay.exe' 00000044 4        \_ 'winedevice.exe' 00000020 15       'HearthstoneDeckTracker.exe'Wine-dbg>attach 0x200x000000007bccba55 DbgBreakPoint+0x1 in ntdll: retWine-dbg>bt allBacktracing for thread 0124 in process 0020 (C:\Hearthstone Deck Tracker.debug\HearthstoneDeckTracker.exe):Backtrace:=>0 0x000000007bccba55 DbgBreakPoint+0x1() in ntdll (0x000000001218ff48)  1 0x000000007bcb4d62 DbgUiRemoteBreakin+0x81(arg=<couldn't compute location>) [\\?\unix\usr\src\winebld32\dlls\ntdll\..\..\..\wine-current\dlls\ntdll\process.c:1783] in ntdll (0x000000001218ff48)  2 0x000000007bccba50 call_thread_func_wrapper+0xb() in ntdll (0x000000001218ff5c)  3 0x000000007bccf5b7 call_thread_func+0x86() [\\?\unix\usr\src\winebld32\dlls\ntdll\..\..\..\wine-current\dlls\ntdll\signal_i386.c:3029] in ntdll (0x000000001218ffdc)  4 0x000000007bccba42 call_thread_entry+0x9() in ntdll (0x000000001218ffec)Backtracing for thread 0100 in process 0020 (C:\Hearthstone Deck Tracker.debug\HearthstoneDeckTracker.exe):011c:fixme:dbghelp:i386_fetch_context_reg Unknown register 9aException c0000005
Any idea how to find out what is going on? How to get a real stack trace of the application? I even fired up windows to compile a debug build of the application (it's mostly open source), but that didn't help either.

Linux • Error Allocating Memory

$

I'm trying to run Cemu, a Wii U emulator for Windows, in Wine using Lutris. The emulator can use either OpenGL or Vulkan as backends. OpenGL runs fine in Wine, but when using Vulkan Wine is reporting it can't allocate memory right as Cemu crashes. I can't reproduce the issue in Windows 10. I'm using a 64-bit prefix as this is a 64-bit program. I don't have any prerequisite libraries installed through Winetricks. I'm using a runner based on Wine 5.0. Newer runners based on newer version of Wine have the same issue. I reproduced the problem on an 8 year old AMD Linux Mint PC and a second 3 year old Nvidia Linux Mint PC, both using completely different hardware. The AMD system is using a Radeon RX 550 card and the Nvidia system uses a GeForce GTX 1060 SC card. Both PCs have the latest video drivers and Vulkan libraries. The crash occurs about 15 seconds into running the program when it allocates about 1.5GB of memory.

I've attached a zip file of logs and system info from both machines. The logs are from Wine, Cemu, Steam System Info, and Vulkaninfo. Let me know if I can provide anything else, thanks.

Linux • Cannot click checkboxes in laboratory application (Wine 4.0)

Hello all! I've recently moved to Wine from a Windows enviroment. I need this control software to operate a clinic autoanalyzer in a laboratory. I'm using Wine 4.0 due to this ptoblemthis bug with OLE databases in 5.0.

Software works great for the most part, after installing all the needed libraries with Winetricks.

Problem is, I cannot activate these checkboxes correctly. They do not respond to my clicks, and after many clicks they may become checked but the program rarely recognizes them as active, as it should display graphics on the right but not always does:

Image

I tried all the windows/mouse/virtual desktop options in the graphics tab of winecfg but none of those setting seems to affect this problem.

Any ideas?

Thank you so much in advance

Linux • Severe fps drops in wine-lol + DXVK

$

I have Problems with running League of Legends, I hope someone can help me here, because I really can't find a solution:

Problem: League of Legends running at mediocre Settings (AA, Environment= high, shader= off, effects = medium, char details= very high) at high fps, but randomly dropping 30+ Frames, not even if sth. big happens, just seemingly random. If I cap fps at a lower amount, the drops are still happening. It makes me really angry, because my setup should handle a stable 144fps, but It doesnt...

Setup:

- Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on SSD
- i7 4770, 16 GB DDR3 Ram, GTX 1060 3 GB.
- wine-lol by M. Reimer, DXVK installed on this Prefix and running fine (I enabled the hud to see gpu load etc.)
- nvidia-440-driver (the newest)

Things I tried:
- using DXVK, seems to be a good thing in general but didnt do much
- got a cpu cooler, cpu was running at 80 degrees on stock cooler, clocking down, so i fixed this
- set cpufreq governor to "performance". Some people were saying that the cpu freq manager can set the cpu in mode "on demand" if the game is quite easy to calc, so the cpu clocks down hard, which can cause a stutter. Didn't help with my issue sadly, cpu doesnt fall under 3.7 Ghz now, which is what i wanted.
- Enabling virtual desktop in wine, didn't do anything, but causing issues with tabbing out xd
- tried to set msvcert.dll as Native, with winetricks vlcrun6, didnt work at all, I wanted to do this, cause wine is spamming the console with an error, related to msvcrt.dll, it's a client problem tho, so it shouldn't affect gameplay. Game wouldt load when i set it to native, so i changed it back to builtin... (winetricks patched the dll)
-monitoring Gpu Load: It's max 25% ingame, so I don't see an issue there, still did some performance tweaks in nvidia x-server settings ...

Weird things, which I can't explain:
-Why do the drops also happen, when i cap at a lower fps amount? For ex. I cap at 144, it sometimes drops to 90. I cap to 90, it drops to 60, like wtf -> Seems to be a performance management issue, the pc is clearly able to handle the game, but sth. is causing the random slowdowns, thats why I tried to disable all powersaving features.
- At uncapped, the gpu load is higher, which is good, but drops are more severe, the setup is getting 200+ fps sometimes but still drops to 130.

Maybe someone here, has another golden idea... I'm running out of options

Wine Help • What activates wineserver?

$

wineserver is a process that uses too much CPU and makes the apps slow.
Are there specific DLLs or settings that activate it?

I'm trying to play Sonic Mania on Wine 4.0. Although the speed is okay, the music is stuttering. I think the problem is that wineserver is too CPU intensive that it slows down the sound thread.
I can only play it by using a virtualbox with Windows 7, but the virtual machine uses too much memory that I cannot run another app, such as a web browser.

Some lightweight apps use wineserver, but wineserver does much more processing than it is requested by the app. wineserver continues using CPU even when the app is paused in the background. On real Windows, those app don't use CPU while they are paused.

Hi, I'm new in this community, but I have much years using Wine and Wineskin, but I'm not a profesional programmer or something like that.
The case, I port Quake 2, the PC game in Mac(Mac OS Sierra), version of Wrapper is 2.9.0.6 with the engine WS9WineStable2.0.2, the Quake 1 and 2 version is unknown(is not the Steam version, one friend send me the data game in a USB, is a cracked version I think, the game works, except the music of the game, the sound effects works good, but the game don't have music, I don't install a library or a plugin of Winetricks, the point is:
I need help to make the music game works.

Linux • No winehq-stable package on Fedora 32

Linux • Cannot install Wine32 in Ubuntu 20.04

Apparently this sort of problem is common, but comes in as many flavors as there are users, as it keeps recurring and none of the answers anyone posts seem to work.

I've tried installing Wine, from both the Focal repository and WineHQ, and done every update, upgrade, add-architecture that anyone suggests, but Wine32 (wine32:i386) is always MIA and it never is able to resolve any of its dependencies.

Here's an example of a typical failed attempt to install, first trying Focal's repositories, then following the Wine install guide's recommendations (starting with 'print foreign architectures'). I'm afraid this log is very long, but hopefully this will help answer any questions anyone might have. Repeated descriptive text (Reading package lists..., Some packages could not be installed) and particularly lengthy package listings have been cropped.

So, whatever I do Wine32 never installs. If it just did this for everyone and was a known defect, then I'd know to give up on Wine or Ubuntu (or both), but all of the people offering solutions and posting videos (where it works at a step it fails at here) suggests that it shouldn't be like this.

One point that might be of interest - I upgraded from an earlier version to 20.04 some time back. The upgrade process did not go smoothly and ultimately required manually updating, upgrading, etc. to get it to the place where it would say that everything was shipshape (and where things do indeed appear to be). It's not impossible this might have something to do with the Wine problem, so I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Hi, I am looking for help with installing a program. I just installed Wine 5.0 and it seems to be working fine. I've managed to install VLC as a test with no issues. However, the main piece of software I would like to install (Vmix Call) does not seem to respond. When I click on the exe file or when I run the file via Terminal, either way I have the same issue: An icon labelled "wine-preloader" opens in the dock but nothing happens beyond that. The icon itself is the correct icon for the target software, but the software does not install.

In terminal, I get the following:
