macOS • ROBOTICS;NOTES Elite [Steam] [with CoZ patch] will not launch

$
0
0
Wine version: 5.0
OS: MacOS 10.14.1
Hardware: MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)
Processor: 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB

Issue:
I recently bought the visual novel ROBOTICS;NOTES Elite (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1111 ... TES_ELITE/) on Steam and installed a community patch made by Committee of Zero (CoZ) translations (https://sonome.dareno.me/projects/rne-steam.html). The launcher (added by the CoZ patch) works just fine, but whenever I try to start the game itself, a small black window pops up for a nanosecond (if that), and then nothing happens. No error messages, it just stops running.

Existing overrides:
dinput8 (native, builtin)
mscoree (native, builtin)

Other (maybe) pertinent details:
I am running Steam through Wine, that all works smoothly and I have successfully installed/played Steins;Gate and Age of Empires 2 using it.
In order to get the log below, I opened up Steam through Wine first, then executed the LauncherC0.exe file directly from the game's directory, and attatched the "&> /tmp/log.txt 2>&1" command to that command.
Everything before the final "0165:err:avicap:query_video_device Video 4 Linux support not enabled" line happened while opening the Launcher, everything afterwards happened after clicking on the "Start Game" button.

Finally, it cannot be overstated how little I understand exactly what I'm doing here. For example, I've been jerry-rigging games to run through Wine on this Mac since 2016, but only today did I find out what the "cd" command is for.

Thanks for the help!

Linux • Application behavior worse after Wine 5.14

This is only one of the many issues I've had with Wine in time.

I'm using an application called POP Peeper v 4.5.3 for IMAP/POP3 e-mail in Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon (based on Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic). It is set to open messages by default in HTML mode (using ieframe). Until and including Wine 5.14 the option to block external images and data (main menu > Options > View Messages) was working correctly; message text and elements were displayed, except for images and other elements that did not originate from the base URI. For example, a comment reply from a Wordpress blog would not display commenter's Gravatar by default, it would require double-clicking a specific (yellow) banner to allow that, which is intended behavior. Upon double-clicking that banner any and all external elements such as Gravatar image, linked pictures etc. would be displayed in the message.

Starting with Wine 5.15 up until current 5.22 (at the time of writing this) the very same settings in POP Peeper would instead yield a completely blank message window! No text, nothing pertaining to the base URl (which is probably a local file in the Tmp folder) would be displayed. Upon double-clicking the yellow banner everything would be displayed, including external images and data (as intended).

Downgrading Wine from any higher version to 5.14 will restore the correct behavior (as observed natively in Win98SE, WinXP and higher). Therefore I consider this behavior as a regression.

I am willing to perform tests in order to find the culprit and hopefully a permanent fix.

Linux • How to fix mount manager error in winecfg (drives list missing)?

$

A few things happened in a short time (including installing native libraries through Winetricks) and at some point winecfg started displaying an empty drive panel with an error. Tried reinstalling same Wine version (5.14) to no avail. Then I temporarily updated to current 5.22 and the drive list was back working. Then I downgraded back to 5.14 due to a different issue (just posted about it) and the drive list error returned. Something about mountmgr. Right now can't provide the exact error messages because I upgraded back to 5.22 in an attempt to find a clue.
Any information on this would be appreciated. I'm not afraid to test anything that could lead to fixing this issue. Thank you in advance.

Website Issues • How to change username?

$

Seems like a stupid question, huh? Well, the stupid is not me.

For over 15 years I have been using the very same username wherever I went. It's my trademark if you want. And it has absolutely nothing to do with bad/illegal stuff. One thing that so many people - and the now prevalent AI - miss is that this is a big big world and what may seem weird/inappropriate/illegal/imoral/etc to one could be perfectly normal to another. Mainly due to language issues.

A few months ago I tried to register to this board in order to find answers to my problems. Failed miserably for some reason - wrong answer to "security question"; maybe I was too stupid or too intelligent? Today I tried again and was met with a red line stating I was flagged as a spammer. Me, a spammer? In what world?! Then I realised the artificial stupidity that took the place of natural intelligence didn't like either my nickname or my e-mail address. So with a cringe I changed the nickname. Registration went through. Validated it through the e-mail link.

But then I just couldn't log into the board. Error after error after error although username and password were absolutely correct. Could it be the browser? I switched to the Tor browser. Managed to log in. Started to post a new topic to explain my problem and ask for help - because that's why people come to a forum board, I imagine: to get help. Finished typing, hit Preview just to make sure everything was alright, then hit Submit. Amazingly, a new red text told me I was blocked due to... dunno, whatever reason.

So I desperately tried to log in back with Pale Moon. After a couple tries I amazingly succeeded, then I had to copy post title and text into Pale Moon and submit the post. Yay, two browsers, a lot of time and patience - just to ask one question that probably nobody will reply to.

So now after all this ordeal, I just wanna know why. Why has this world become so anal, so cold, so.. hateful I could say. I remember the time when there were forum boards that didn't even require registration - one could simply reply to someone else as anonymous, or post a topic as such. Spontaneity, freedom... A world long gone...

Main idea of this post would probably be impossible to achieve: changing username. I registered as Dragos as the closest to the native spelling of my name, but for so long people all around the globe knew ne as Drugwash. Sounds so bad in English, doesn't it? But it is just the dictionary spelling of my real name, nothing more. Something that this board's AI could never understand.

Linux • How to Install Wine on Linux without a network connection.

I was wondering if it was possible to install the latest version of wine stable on Linux without a network connection. If so, I would be greatful if I can get help on how to do it.

I'm running a really old laptop (IBM Thinkpad T43) running Lubuntu 18.04 LTS. I do not have any wifi connection and I'm currently typing this from my mobile device. I cannot tether (my data plan doesn't support it). But I have a usb drive to move things from my phone to my Labtop via otg cable.

I installed these: atmlib gdiplus msxml3 msxml6 vcrun2010 ie8
I also set fontsmooth=rgb in settings.
log.txt seems to output stuff related to dxvk so I ran

CODE:

WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=<myprefix> setup_dxvk uninstall but that doesn't fix the problem.

Linux • Taps on a touchscreen do not register as mouse clicks in some games - am I missing something?

$

So I got a Surface Go 2 to play around with, Ubuntu 20.04 (focal fossa), latest wine-staging from the official repos, that is, the winehq.org ones, not the Ubuntu ones. The touchscreen works fine natively (GNOME), and it works in WINE in principle, e.g. I can click tabs in winecfg.

The iGPU is nothing much, but I thought I'd read some visual novels on it (both are free demo versions, both sites are potentially NSFW, which is why I linked the demos directly, too:

Both require the locale to be set to ja_JP.UTF-8 for text to display properly, though it shouldn't matter for testing if touches register as mouse clicks in-game. MUSICUS!'s menu is English, the Yonagi demo has a launcher, just press the biggest button.

Using the keyboard+touchpad attachment, everything is fine, but tapping on the screen will only move the mouse cursor, it won't register as a click. I tried X11 and Wayland (and both DXVK and Gallium9 -- vanilla WINED3D works best), and there were certainly differences, just not as far as the taps not registering went.

Before I go down the rabbit hole of filing a bug I wanted to ask if touch not working was common knowledge, e.g. if there's a regression, or if it needed tweaks ...

Linux • Quicken on Fedora 33 crashes after install of Wine version 5.22-1.fc33

$
0
0
I run "Quicken Premier 2012" under Wine on Fedora, so that I can update my accounts as needed without having to bring up a copy of Windows just to run Quicken. I have been running this version since 2013, it does what I need, so I never saw a need to update to a later version.

Recently I updated to Fedora 33 and Quicken was still running fine. But yesterday I got an update to Wine:

wine.x86_64 5.22-1.fc33
wine-dxvk.i686 1.7.2-2.fc33
wine-dxvk.x86_64 1.7.2-2.fc33

Since then, Quicken aborts whenever I try to display or update my investment accounts, for example just clicking on the "Investing" tab to display my investment portfolio causes the program to abruptly terminate and close the window. Other accounts and functions within Quicken seem to work fine.

Now Quicken has been known to have occasional problems with corrupting its data files, so I ran the internal "validate" and "supervalidate" functions on my QDATA.QDF data file. These functions say that the file is fine. I also copied the data file to a system running Windows 10 where the same version of Quicken is installed, and this Quicken runs fine: I can display and update my investment accounts and do all the other Quicken functions. So I believe the data file is correct and consistent. That leads me to believe that there may be a problem running under Wine.

I ran the quicken executable file under "winedbg" as follows:

winedbg qw.exe 2>&1 | tee winedbg.txt

The output had a lot of "fixme" warning lines, but the following debug output, minus the "fixme" lines:

CODE:

00e0:err:ole:TLB_ReadTypeLib Loading of typelib L"C:\\Program Files\\Quicken\\QWUTIL.tlb" failed with error 10060188:err:ole:CoGetContextToken apartment not initialisedUnhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0xfffffff0 in 32-bit code (0x10008396).0024:fixme:dbghelp:elf_search_auxv can't find symbol in moduleRegister dump: CS:0023 SS:002b DS:002b ES:002b FS:0063 GS:006b EIP:10008396 ESP:00722410 EBP:00722410 EFLAGS:00010202(  R- --  I   - - - ) EAX:fffffff0 EBX:0570ed10 ECX:ffffffec EDX:00000001 ESI:ffffffec EDI:10053390Stack dump:0x00722410:  00722420 1005339e fffffff0 0570ecf00x00722420:  00000000 027e72ca fffffff0 0000010e0x00722430:  0573dcb0 027e7229 01000009 007224540x00722440:  02f7129b 00000000 02f8f81c 028393e00x00722450:  0072259c 02811796 00000001 007225a80x00722460:  02f85cdc 0072247c 0448a880 00000000Backtrace:=>0 0x10008396 EntryPoint+0xffffffff() in qwutil (0x00722410)  1 0x1005339e EntryPoint+0xffffffff() in qwutil (0x00722420)0x10008396 EntryPoint+0xffffffff in qwutil: movl0x0(%eax),%eaxWine-dbg>pass00e0:err:seh:NtRaiseException Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x10008396Process of pid=00dc has terminatedWine-dbg>quit
I have solved my problem for now by following the advice elsewhere on this WineHQ site: adding the Fedora 33 "winehq.repo" to dnf's repository list and installing the "winehq-stable" version:

winehq-stable-5.0.3-2.2.x86_64

Now Quicken is working properly again with all its functions. My questions are, however:

1) how did I end up with the "5.22-1.fc33" version from the Fedora 33 repositories? I'm not sure what I was running before, but this version seems to be a "staging" version, not a stable one.

2) should I submit a bug report about this? What additional information would I need to obtain?

Wine Help • Adobe Digital Editions, nothing happens / exception occurs

Hello

I'm trying to use Adobe Digital Editions on Fedora 32 but it won't work.
The program seems to install ok, but when I try to run it either nothing happens or an exception occurs.

If you could help me get Adobe Digital Editions working I would really appreciate it.

Fedora 32
Wine 5.22
Adobe Digital Editions, tried with version 2.0 and 4.5

Some pages on the internet I've looked at:
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... n&iId=6326
https://superuser.com/questions/1027608 ... e-on-linux
https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comm ... ions_wine/
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1113384.html

This is the exception I get:

CODE:

Linux • Eagle Media Library

$

Hi everyone!

I tried using https://eagle.cool/ via Wine.

At first I was able to install it (x64 default prefix) and it seemed to work until I tried to import my library from a NAS.

Then it crashed/ told me it needs dot.net so I went and tried installing that.

No luck, so I changed the prefix to 32bit and was able to install dot.net45.

But now Eagle crashes everytime in the 32bit environment.

BUT it seemed to import my library and worked actyall ufor a few seconds nicely before crashing again. So I think there is not too much missing for me to be able to run it.

Please help me :-) This is one of the very few apps that hold me back on win/macos so I can totally migrate to Linux.

BigSour totally killed the mac experience for me :-)

Wine Help • some text entry not working (zoom.exe)

I am trying to run zoom.exe in wine. (wine-5.0.3, ubuntu 18.04, Linux 4.15.0-124-generic)

I can input the meeting ID, but I can't input the user name and the Meeting password.

I select the web browser then I active the zoom dialog and click the password. When inputting password, you can see all the password "aaaaaaaa" are input to the wrong place

I tried some solution which suggest that using winecfg to change the "Windows version" and uncheck the "allow the window manager to control the windows" and recheck and apply. It doesn't work either.

Dear all, I've successfully installed the original game in object, however, when I try to launch it, I get the following error message:

(which basically just says that 'the program Shogun encountered a problem and needs to be closed')

In the hopeful eventuality that this should be helpful to identify the problem, please find here below the relevant log:
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x004262a2).

When trying to run PSPad editor (latest stable/dev version) wine crash with virtual_setup_exception error while splash screen is shown or while checking for updates. The editor hangs with busy cursor and an exception is shown in the terminal. The only solution is to kill the affected application as it does not return from hang. To reproduce
  1. (optionally) create a new user
  2. (optionally) assign admin privileges such as sudo to it
  3. (optionally, if wine prefix does not exist) run wine wineboot
  4. Download pspad zip archive from official site, unzip to some location or use installer (not tested)
  5. cd to pspad dir, run "wine PSPad.exe"
  6. Watch the editor hanging on splash screen, or try to check for updates (from menu) if it does not hang, watch editor hang during check
Environment
Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with proposed repository enabled, Xfce 4.14
Wine 6.0-rc1 (from official winehq repository for ubuntu)

Wine Help • Best Wine version for 32bit applications (Debian 10.6)

$

HI .
I have some older 32 bit applications (non graphical intensive) and I want to run as many instances a possible. This means I need wine to use as little CPU as possible. This is what I noticed (I just use apt-get install without any tweaking):
All running under Debian 10.6 64bit.

Wine 4.0 (wineserver32 seems to be running)
Wine 5.0.3 (wineserver64)
Wine 5.22 development (wineserver)

I don't have 3 servers to run all 3 setup at the same time to compare CPU usage but winserver32 seems to be using 50% CPU of 4 core CPU and 5 instances of the 32bit application is running. Wine seems to choose the type -wineserver32/64 or just wineserver by default install.

So in 'theory' which of the wine version is more cpu efficient in running 32 bit applications (non graphical intensive).? I do notice v5.22 uses the most RAM but I am more concern about CPU. I do realize that recent development of wine has been on catering for the gaming community which benefits all users but I still have some old 32bit windows program that still in use.
Thanks
