Linux • Icewind Dale full screen display

I'm trying to get this old game to work, and having problems with full screen mode. This is a Gentoo system, with wine ver. 5.0.2 installed.

The game installed okay, but had a lot of graphics problems at first. I found the game setting for OpenGL mode, which improved response immensely. I can run the game in a (small) window, but switching to full screen mode introduces flickers, flashes, and mouse cursor refresh artifacts that make things unusable. Windowed mode seems to function fine, but is too small to make out game detail well. Obviously full screen mode would be preferable, but if there was a way to scale up the window mode, that would be acceptable as an alternative.

I have experimented with settings in winecfg, and with all relevant registry keys under the Direct3D category from here: https://wiki.winehq.org/Useful_Registry_Keys. Note that by default, my version of wine does not create the Direct3D key, but I did try adding it and experimenting with csmt, renderer, VideoMemorySize, and DirectDrawRenderer. No values or settings I tried seemed to make any difference.

Years ago I had this game working on an older Gentoo system (hardware and software) with a much older version of Wine-- so I know it *should* work. There is obviously some setting or configuration I have not found and would appreciate any guidance on what else I should try. Thanks....

Wine Help • Directplay between Wine & Windows 10

$

I have Stronghold Crusader using DirectPlay working between two instances of Windows 10 with Directplay enabled
I also have two instances of Linux Mint with wine-5.0.3 and winetricks directplay working.

But Windows 10 <-> wine-5.0.3 don't work together. It can see it in the game list but freezes on connection during a direct LAN connection.
Is there any info about installing a direct play compatible or a windows 10 directplay that works with wine?

The game LOTR - The Battle for Middle-earth 1 won't start.
The prefix is almost clean (the same on the clean prefix).
2 years ago, it was launched without any problems on a clean prefix.
Now it shows at startup it gives a debugger window with incomprehensible information.

macOS • Wine Return of Reckoning install problems

New to Wine and not really too savvy, I have been using it to run LOTRO on my Mac and wanted to run Return of Reckoning as well. I have Wine installed and downloaded the installer for Return of Reckoning (Warhammer Online private server for anyone who wasn't aware). Installation seemed to start just fine, it got maybe 30% in and asked if I wanted to install DirectX, it is required for the game so I went with it. Once it gets past that point I get an error box with the Intec Plug-in heading. It says that it appears my internet connection has dropped. I am not actually having any connection issues, I checked to see if I had a firewall active and do not seem to, nor do I have virus protection running. When I quit out of the installer and try to restart it, it seems to advance just a very little bit each time, but only VERY little.

Any suggestions? Thanks in Advance!

Website Issues • [AppDB] Application type: Comes with device

$

Hello

Yesterday, I submitted an AppDB report.
During the submit, I was asked for the application (license) type: Freeware, Retail, Subscription, ...

The application that I have tested was a tool intended to work together with a certain hardware device and it has been released by the device's manufacturer.

I think that the types in the list (Freeware, Retail, Subscription, ...) do not really match in this case.
And I think that a lot of Linux users use hardware whose manufacturers provide software for Windows, and many of them will (try to) run this software under Wine.

Therefore, I think it would be a good idea to add an additional application (license) type for applications that come together with hardware.

Thanks for reading,
Martin

Wine Help • Best way to inject a DLL patch

Hello

I have an application that requires certain functions (for example "midiInGetDevCaps()") to be patched because Wine's implementation does not return the values expected by the application:

CODE:

int patched_midiInGetDevCaps(int dev, MIDIINCAPS *caps, int len){    int result = original_midiInGetDevCaps(dev, caps, len);    if(...) /* Check if the data must be patched */    {        caps->wPid = ... /* Patch the data */        ...    }    return result;}
What is the best way to perform such kind of patches?

Thanks.

Hi, I'm running wine 5.22 and have a problem with an application, C64 Studio (https://www.georg-rottensteiner.de/de/index.html). When opening it crashes without ever opening a window or such. There is no wineDB entry as it is not a widespread application.

I have no idea why this is happening and I recall trying to get this software running some time ago on an earlier wine version on a different computer, so i guess it's not related to my system. My current Linux distro is Solus fortitude 4.1 if this helps.

Linux • thcrap

File: https://github.com/thpatch/thcrap latest release
Wine: wine-5.22 from Arch repositories
Clean WINEPREFIX without mono and gecko

The configurator should start fetching new patches from its servers at first launch, but it shows only default ones.
After searching for games it fails to download base_tsa file (probably this one https://github.com/thpatch/thcrap-tsa/, but manual placing didn't went well) and throws an error, even if you pick a valid touhou location. This is a problem for all wine versions i've listed here so far.

The output differs with PlayOnLinux-wine-3.21-upstream-linux-x86 from https://www.playonlinux.com/wine/binari ... linux-x86/, as it succesfully fetches the patch list, but still fails to properly install base_tsa.

Pre-packed patch from http://www.mediafire.com/file/2x1eym8ja ... n%2529.zip works fine with lutris-4.21-x86_64

Steps to reproduce
  • Download thcrap outside WINEPREFIX
  • CODE:

    cd thcrapenv WINEDEBUG=warn+all wine thcrap_configure.exe &> log.txt
  • Select lang_ru
  • Dont fill custom name
  • Pick drive C: as search path

I try to run or install the Software "Zen_Studio_Latest.exe" it's freeware and you can download it here:

Wine Help • Quadspinner Gaea - 3D terrain generation app

$

Hi, I attempted to run Gaea with Wine in the past but I never fully succeded. This app has changed under-the-hood architecture several times since it was released a couple of years ago and so did its behavior when trying to run it with Wine. However, it has now become more consistent and the developer mentioned this should be the final (and stable) main architecture behind it.

The current version installs and runs with Wine using the Winetricks verbs: dotnet48, vcrun2019, corefonts, d3dcompiler_47. The core functions of the app seem to work for the most part but the 3D viewport (Unity engine based) flickers severely and the mouse interaction with it, simply doesn't work. Any idea how to fix this?

You can download the free version of Gaea here: https://quadspinner.com/Download

Thank you.

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 and have winehq-stable installed and when I type the command nothing happens, it just sits there. It was working a week ago, but I have no idea what happened. Winetricks does work though. Are there any logs to see what's happening?

However, when i run the windows app i get the following error:

i also setup : winetricks orm=backbuffer glsl=disable
