Linux • Need help with Linux and Windows fonts

$

0
I installed a Windows version of Playground Sessions which is a piano instruction program.
It runs fine using Wine-Staging, but the one issue I have is the inability to properly render the Flat musical symbol.
This is a known issue with the Windows version of the program, but is easily resolved by installing Windows Japanese Supplemental Fonts.
How would I go about installing those fonts in my Wine-Staging install?

Many Thanks for any help you can provide!

Linux • Visual Pinball 9 (VP9) fullscreen window ends up covering score/DMD window which should always be on top

I would like to get Visual Pinbal 8 and 9 (VP) working perfectly using wine.

The TL;DR is that the DMD/score window, which should always be on top, always ends up underneath the fullscreen VP table window. This happens both when using my window manager (XFCE) and when setting "Emulate Virtual Desktop". I would prefer to use "Emulate Virtual Desktop" all the time but any solution/suggestion/workaround would be really appreciated. The below describes the problem in excruciating detail.

When playing in fullscreen mode, Visual Pinball 8 and 9 (VP8 and VP9) have a problem where the VPinMAME window that shows the DMD (Dot Matrix Display) is hidden behind the fullscreen window of the Visual Pinball table (VP table) window itself. The VPinMAME window shows the score, the number of balls and other game pertinent information so it's crucial that it's visible during gameplay. I should first explain that several of the VP recreations actually use the real ROM from the original pinball table. The ROM itself is run using VPinMAME and connects/integrates "seamlessly" with the table model constructed in visual pinball. This is really awesome if you think about it but it does have a side effect that casues the problem I'm trying to solve. So again what's supposed to happen is that the VPinMAME window is supposed to always be on top even in fullscreen window mode but when running under wine, this doesn't happen. I run the XFCE desktop and I can see that the the VPinMAME window is marked as "Always On Top" but it seems that the fullscreen VP table window always goes on top when selected. This happens even though the VP table window is not marked as "Always On Top"..

Now the problem exists with wine version 3.0, 3.6, 4.1 and 4.6. Somewhere between 4.6 and 4.21 the situation improved where by default the fullscreen Visual Pinball table does cover everything on the screen including the vPinMame window but alt-tab-ing the VPinMame window to the front and clicking on the VP table window allows me to direct the focus on the VP table but still keep the vPinMame window in front. 5.0 rc1 behaves the same as 4.21. The problem with this is that the XFCE desktop panel also covers the bottom of the VP table window which is annoying. BTW if I _don't_ use fullscreen windowed mode, so a regular window, I get the regular window behaviour, so the VPinMame window is always on top of all other windows and the VP table window behaves as a normal window however that is less desirable.

"Did you try Emulate Virtual Desktop?" I hear you ask. Well yes, I did and I had high hopes for this. When I enable "Emulate Virtual Desktop" the VP table window is always on the front and always covers the VPinMAME window inside the wine desktop window. At that point I can't alt-tab the vPinMame window to the front as alt-tab is used by my linux window manager (XFCE) and just brings other windows to the front.

In an ideal world I would always like to be able to "Emulate Virtual Desktop" and have VP8 and VP9 work correctly like that.

Note that VPX (VP 10) has the VPinMAME window display within the VP table window so this problem doesn't exist there. VPX does have a different problem that I won't discuss in this question.

If you would like to reproduce the problem or have an interest in running some classic pinball virtual recreations you would have to:

1) Create an account on vpforums.org (Sorry about that)
2) Download VPX6setup.zip (This contains VPinMAME, VP8, VP9 and VPX)
3) Download a VP9 table and a rom for it (Say Medieval-Madness_VP91x_2.4.3.vpt and mm_109c.zip)
4) Create wine prefix for this (Windows XP and Windows 7 is fine)
5) install wsh57 using winetricks
6) Install VP
7) Install VPinMAME (run setup.exe in the VPinMAME directory. It's also included in the VPX6setup.zip file)
8) Copy the table you downloaded in the Tables directory
9) Copy the rom for the table in the ./drive_c/Visual Pinball/VPinMAME/roms
10) Run VPinball995.exe, load the table and hit F5 to "play it"

does this mean that my Wine installed through Synaptics is 32bit instead of 64?

Hi,

with certain "dialog forms" I get a low window title bar, for example with IrfanView:
Bildschirmfoto_2019-12-28_14-21-49.png
(the form shows the options of the batch conversion dialog)

How can I change this? Thank you.

P.S. I'm using Linux Mint 19.2 Xfce with Wine 4.0.3.

Wine Help • Single-digit FPS with Mouse Movement

Hi all,

Running a Linux Mint box with wine-4.0 but having this issue:

Installed STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl into a wineprefix, runs flawlessly but as soon as I move my mouse in the main menu, the FPS drops to single-digits. In the 3D world/game environment, I can move my mouse and FPS is 60+, but again as soon as a menu pops up, the FPS drops.

I've tried setting my mouse polling from 125Hz to 1000Hz and there isn't a difference. Also tried Cinnamon and XFCE, game windowed or full-screen, but nothing works.

I'm pulling my hair out because I previously had this game installed with wine months ago on this machine and it ran perfectly. Not sure what happened since!

Has anyone encountered this before?

Linux • Farming Simulator 19 Logitech G27 Wheel (Windows Raw Input?)

$

Hi,

I run wine-5.0-rc2 with dxvk under Manjaro:

CODE:

System: Kernel: 5.4.6-2-MANJARO x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: i3 4.17.1 Distro: Manjaro Linux Machine: HP Compaq Elite 8300 CMT UEFI: Hewlett-Packard v: K01 v03.07 date: 05/10/2018 CPU: Topology: Quad Core model: Intel Core i7-3770 bits: 64 type: MT MCP L2 cache: 8192 KiB Speed min/max: 1600/3900 MHzGraphics: Device-1: NVIDIA GP107 [GeForce GTX 1050 Ti] driver: nvidia v: 430.64 Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.6 driver: nvidia resolution: 1920x1200~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 v: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 430.64
Farming Simulator 19 runs perfectly with DX11 in native wine (no Steam Proton) and XBox-Controller is working.

The only problem is the G27 Logitech Wheel which I can not get to work.
FS19 recognizes the G27 correctly:

CODE:

Input System Keyboard enabled Mouse enabled Gamepad/Joystick enabled Force Feedback disabled Devices: XINPUT_GAMEPAD Number of Axes: 6 Number of Buttons: 14 G27 Racing Wheel (VID: 046D PID: C29B VER: 0111 Cat: WHEEL)
But the game doesn't recognize any inputs by the wheel.

I've tried it with a Logitech Driving Force GT and Steam Proton FS19 installation and got the same results. I've changed the Proton version for testing some weeks ago and in one version (I think it was 4.9.X) the game recognizes some wheel inputs but not all.

So can it be a wine (proton) issue?
Wheels work correctly in FS17 and before and in other games (e.g. Cattle and Crops, European Truck Simulator 2 series).
ltwheelconf says that wheel is already in nativemode and I can configure autocenter, FFB and steering angle.
I've tried to set the wheel in HID-Mode by usb_modeswitch and lsusb sees HID-Mode. But then the wheel is no longer recognized by linux or wine until driver reload or reconnect the wheel to the PC.

A GIANTS employee said:
A possible reason why the LS17 worked and LS19 didn't anymore could be the change of the used API. LS17 uses XInput (for Xbox gamepads) and DirectInput (for all other devices) and as input APIs. LS19 continues to use XInput (for Xbox gamepads) but now uses Windows Raw Input (for all other devices) as this has several advantages.
The Logitech gaming software is not used directly.
in this Thread: https://forum.giants-software.com/viewt ... 6&t=155881
(German!)

Could this be the problem and how it can be solved?
If you need more logs or something please ask.

Thank you very much!

Alex

Android • Where are files installed through wine stored on android ?

Hi,
I just got done installing Diablo 2 in wine (using D2SE to launch through the UNHANDLED EXCEPTION error) and in works great with plugy working properly again thanks to D2SE. But I would like to access my save files so I can modify the game even further and also have access to my already existing characters.

I'm using PrimeOS which is a fork of android x86 running Nougat 7.1 and Wine 4.0rc-7. I tried using various file explorers but still couldn't find where my Diablo II install is and I would gladly appreciate the help.
Thank you in advance.

Linux • Cannot install USB webcam on Ubuntu16.04 with Wine 4

$

Is it possible?
I have seen contradictory statements many of which are regarding older versions of Wine.

I have some custom windows based software that my company has been using for over 20 years. I can modify this software as my needs change however, it seems that with every iteration of Windows, XP, 7 , 10, I loose some functionality. I need a more stable platform to run this on. Hence, Linux. I have chosen Ubuntu 16.04 (as some of my machines are not 64 bit). I will accept ANY flavor of Linux if I can get this to work. The program runs perfectly, in Ubuntu, except for one thing. The users need to be able to snap images of their product. Currently we use an IPEVO Point-2-View USB webcam at each machine to do this.

I am unable to get the Wine to see the webcam. I have tried MANY different solutions that I have found about this. None seem to work. I know my way around Linux pretty well but am by no means an expert. If this IS possible I think that I must just be missing something in the installation.

As it sits now, when I plug in the webcam, "Cheese" works fine. Looking at /dev/ I have no ttyUSB files I do however have many ttyx and ttySx files ( about 40 or so of them). If I need to symlink one of them to a COM port, how do I know which one?

Note: Changing away from the custom software is not an option.

dmesg outputs

Wine Help • Java applications with wine

Hi!

Do Java applications work with wine?
If so, where should a mysql database be so that the Java application can access it? Also in the network?

After several years with Linux, I am now forced to use specific software on my computers that only works under Windows. I would have to install Windows instead of Linux on all computers.

Wine might be an alternative?

Bye,
Olaf

Linux • Wine does not detect png.h and jpeglib.h?

$

Hello. I am trying to compile wine 1.5.1. I created symbolic links to png.h and jpeglib.h on usr/local/include since I installed them on /media/34GB/Arquivos-de-Programas
as can be seen on the image:

Image

Yet I receive from Wine:

CODE:

checking png.h usability... nochecking png.h presence... no

CODE:

checking jpeglib.h usability... nochecking jpeglib.h presence... no
So I ask: 1)What can I do to make Wine detect both files? 2)Does it really matter? For what Wine uses them? At least at first I do not care about taking screenshots. Thanks for your time.
