Wine Help • Wine 5.9 regression in the game Max Payne 1

$
0
0
I have the game Max Payne made by a friend of mine to run with Wine 3.5 and it does run fine. I decided to try play the game with Wine 5.9 but that turned out to be impossible with 5.9 because when the game starts the mouse is inverted in all directions and there's no way to have it back to normal. Using the game's mouse settings to invert the mouse cursor don't help and the cursor remains inverted - moving the mouse to the right sends the cursor to the left and moving it up sends it down, on top of that the cursor is jumping when moving it which is annoying. I copied back Wine 3.5 and the inverted cursor problem was gone.

P.S. This may be unrelated to the described problem but wine (regardless of the version) keeps crying about not being able to find 'libncurses.so.5' when I run the start script for Max Payne.

Linux • Embird 2020 install fails

$

Hello.
I've successfully run Embird under Linux before using wine but am trying to install it on a fresh install and I'm having difficulties.
I'm trying to install Embird 2020 Build 10.44, 32-bit version (as I recall that I could only manage the 32 bit version last time, I believe in 2018). http://www.embird.net/download.htm (The demo is the same file as the registered version)
Wine version is 1.8.7
My OS is MX Linux 18.7 (based on Debian)
These are the errors I get when I run the installer:

CODE:

$ wine embrd2k20b1044_x86_setup.exe err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {172bddf8-ceea-11d1-8b05-00600806d9b6} not registerederr:ole:create_server class {172bddf8-ceea-11d1-8b05-00600806d9b6} not registerederr:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {172bddf8-ceea-11d1-8b05-00600806d9b6} could be created for context 0x15err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {172bddf8-ceea-11d1-8b05-00600806d9b6} not registerederr:ole:create_server class {172bddf8-ceea-11d1-8b05-00600806d9b6} not registerederr:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {172bddf8-ceea-11d1-8b05-00600806d9b6} could be created for context 0x15err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {56fdf344-fd6d-11d0-958a-006097c9a090} not registerederr:ole:CoGetClassObject class {56fdf344-fd6d-11d0-958a-006097c9a090} not registerederr:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {56fdf344-fd6d-11d0-958a-006097c9a090} could be created for context 0x3err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {56fdf344-fd6d-11d0-958a-006097c9a090} not registerederr:ole:CoGetClassObject class {56fdf344-fd6d-11d0-958a-006097c9a090} not registerederr:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {56fdf344-fd6d-11d0-958a-006097c9a090} could be created for context 0x3
At some point I've tried "winetricks -q mdac28" based off of a post I found when searching for the first error message, but it didn't work. I have since reverted the changes winetricks made (I think). Otherwise I haven't made any changes to wine since I installed it (since I'm not using it to run any other programs).

I am using Kubuntu 20.04. I have added winehq PPA as per instruction on the website. But I cannot install it due to the following error:

I cannot install wine-staging also as it depends on wine-staging-i386 (= 5.9~focal) which doesn't exist.

It is same if I want to install stable release from ppa.

I already posted this as a bug but maybe there is an easy solution:
I followed the wiki to install winehq-stable on Fedora 32. After adding the repo I am able to run <dnf install winehq-devel> and <dnf install winehq-staging> without any problem, but <dnf install winehq-stable> runs into an error since this package does simply not exist in the WineHQ repository.
Since the openSuSE rpm-package does not work on Fedora, it is at the moment impossible to get the current stable version of wine.

Linux • 3D applications crash/exit on Nvidia 340 driver

I have legacy hardware that only supports Nvidia drivers up to version 340. Under new Wine versions (currently wine-staging 5.8), I have run into an issue.

When I run anything that tries to use graphics acceleration (e.g., a DX9 game), I get an X Error and the application exits:

After hours of debugging, I found that Wine is requesting OpenGL version 4.4, while the maximum my driver can handle appears to be 3.3. The Windows application calls Direct3DCreate9. After some hops through various Wine DLLs and system libs, I end up in glXCreateContextAttribsARB in libGL.so.340 (Nvidia blob). This function calls internal functions in the lib that eventually call XSync, which eventually leads to above X message being displayed (I stopped tracing it there because I don't particularly feel like diving into the mess that is Xorg). The call never returns and there's also no exception, it's as if it calls exit(0).
I've seen Wine code in one of the libraries that checks the return value and then retries with a different OpenGL version, however it doesn't get to do that because of above behavior. I wonder if someone with more experience has some insight into which component is at fault here? Hopefully it's nothing on Nvidia's side, because I doubt they'll fix anything in such an old driver.

A workaround that works for me is to set the MaxVersionGL registry key to 0x30003. I decided to post here anyway, because this was quite frustrating to figure out and there's no indication from the somewhat cryptic X error message that the OpenGL version is at fault.

Wine Help • Trying to get ThumbsPls running again, how to debug?

$

I've been struggling for quite some time now and don't know what to try anymore to get ThumbsPlus (https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... on&iId=257) working.

My Setup is CentOS-7, using the wine32 (v4.0.4) repository from Harbottle. I've tried versions 8 to 10 of ThumbsPlus. The installation works fine and I don't see any serious problems apart from "fixme" lines. But when I start the program it asks me to set up a new database because it cannot connect to its (exisiting) one. That, as well as trying an ODBC database (mariadb, test with isql worked) instead, does not work. With winetricks I tried lots of combinations of jet40/mdac28 and so on, switched to different modes (Win7/XP), and experimented with the override dlls (native/builtin). All without success. Even gave a v5.8 32-bit compile a try with the same results. I'm at my wit's end now and afraid it's just a little fix I just can't figure out.

Linux • No Wine binary after installation?

$

I do need to install a specific Wine version, more exactly the 5.8, as this have some correction for the softwares that I do need to use on my Ubuntu 20.04 machine, and because the newer versions are not starting at all.

So, I downloaded the following packages:

CODE:

https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/binary-i386/wine-devel-i386_5.8~focal_i386.debhttps://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/binary-amd64/wine-devel-amd64_5.8~focal_amd64.debhttps://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/binary-i386/wine-devel_5.8~focal_i386.debhttps://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/binary-amd64/wine-devel_5.8~focal_amd64.deb
and installed them using the following commands:

CODE:

> sudo apt-get -f install wine-devel-i386_5.8_focal_i386.deb> sudo apt-get -f install wine-devel-amd64_5.8_focal_amd64.deb> sudo apt-get -f install wine-devel_5.8_focal_i386.deb> sudo apt-get -f install wine-devel_5.8_focal_amd64.deb
but if I I'm typing for "wine" in the terminal, I do get the following error message:

CODE:

$ wineCommand 'wine' not found, but can be installed with:sudo apt install wine # version 5.0-3ubuntu1, orsudo apt install wine-development # version 5.5-3ubuntu1
Seems that the installers downloaded all the necessary dependencies, but for some reason the "wine" is missing!

How can I do fix this issue?

Hi!
I'm new to Wine.
I've installed Wine on Debian Buster (64bits) following this steps: https://wiki.winehq.org/Debian
Then I installed LTspice selecting 64bits option Image
Whe run LTS I've some problems:
Symbols such as Ohm's do not appear, and instead there is a white box Image
When I open a window, the content is not seen. And it appears when you hover over it or switch tabs and go back.

Maybe it will help you to help me:
I've run winetricks and install corefonts
When I run

CODE:

 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine/ wine uninstaller
I see installed LTS, Wine Gecko (32 and 64 bits), Wine Mono Runtime, Wine Mono Windoes Support.

Hi

I have installed wine on my mac running High Sierra 10.13.6. I have tried the following methods

I have installed wine previously on ubuntu machines before and have never needed to do anything special. So I'm at a miss as to what to do.

I have searched on this forum and elsewhere and even though I have found similar errors no solutions seemed apparent.

To corner down the issue we used a sample application that will listen on port for a http request and send a response. It is working fine in windows but not in Wine.

For Example:
When I run the program in Windows, it will start listening on the given URL in argument. When a request is made (either via curl or browser) it will respond with the string "Hey! You hit the server.Returning...." and the listening program will print the string "!!!!!!Got a GET request for http://localhost:7090/" in the console.

Our observation is that the given port is listening as expected. (Seen using netstat -a). We suspect that there could be a bug or a configuration issue in the method HttpReceiveHttpRequest() or any other dependent method.

The source code and the test program is attached for your reference. (The code is referred from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... pplication)

Use the below command to test our sample application
$ wine httptest.exe http://+:7090/

Our test environment:
OS: Ubuntu 20.04
Wine: version-5.0; WINEARCH=win32
Windows Application: x86

Please let us know if any one has already faced the similar problem or help us out in fixing the same.

regards,
David.
