Wine Help • Linux WINE Vs. Linux Steam Proton - What's The Difference?

$

Hi,

I have Linux WINE Staging on Kubuntu 18.04.3 LTS 64Bit Linux.
I tried current Windows Steam game client in my Linux WINE but it does not work.
(screen display issues)
I then tried Linux Steam with Proton to run a Windows game and it worked fine.

What is the difference between Linux WINE Staging and Linux Steam Proton?
Will Windows Steam under Linux WINE be fixed?

Let me know, thanks...

Jesse

Linux • ubuntu 19.10 latest updates breaks wine

I have system updates but they wouldn't complete successfully because of winehq files installed. I uninstalled and even removed any winehq or OBS repository so I am just on the default 19.10 repositories but I am no longer able to install wine at all. just get errors complaining about the wine-i386 package and the operation not being permitted. Has wine been broken in 19.10?

Hello!
I've been running all my old PC games on my mac and have been having no issues until this game.
I input "wine /Volumes/ZT2ZCD1/setup.exe" in terminal as usual, and get this output:

CODE:

preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 000000007ff00000-000000007fff0000wine: failed to map the shared user data: c0000018000b:err:wineboot:start_services_process Couldn't start services.exe: error 1359/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/AppleFSCompression/AppleFSCompression-96.60.1/Common/ChunkCompression.cpp:49: Error: unsupported compressor 8/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/AppleFSCompression/AppleFSCompression-96.60.1/Libraries/CompressData/CompressData.c:353: Error: Unknown compression scheme encountered for file '/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/Exceptions.plist'/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/AppleFSCompression/AppleFSCompression-96.60.1/Common/ChunkCompression.cpp:49: Error: unsupported compressor 8/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/AppleFSCompression/AppleFSCompression-96.60.1/Libraries/CompressData/CompressData.c:353: Error: Unknown compression scheme encountered for file '/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library/AppExceptions.bundle/Exceptions.plist'
And then the InstallShield window opens with the message "Error reading setup initialization file".

Wine version: 4.0.2
macOS High Sierra
(Might be notable to mention that there are 2 discs)

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Android • Mouse emulation

$

Hello everyone.
I wonder how Wine for Android emulates mouse with touchscreen.
I have a 3 button mouse, but I'd prefer to use gestures or touch with more fingers to detect a middle/right click, and I need both because I'm going to use Blender.

I'd like something like:
one finger = left click
two fingers = right click
three fingers = middle click

And maybe some way to emulate the scroll wheel.

Note I didn't try Wine itself ATM, because the phone with which I would is broken and sent to Asus support.
It's a ZE551ML

Thanks anyone in advance for help.

Bye, Ivano.

Hi,

I'm running this programme on Wine that is supposed to play MIDI sounds (download at https://www.miles.be/wp-content/uploads ... _Setup.zip) but no sound is produced.
I get this in the terminal output:

CODE:

0019:err:winsock:WSAIoctl -> SIO_ADDRESS_LIST_CHANGE request failed with status 0x27330009:err:winediag:MIDIMAP_drvOpen No software synthesizer midi port found, Midi sound output probably won't work.
Any clues how to make this work?
I have Wine 4.0.2-1 installed on Ubuntu 19.10 amd64

Thanks

I was trying to run the Chrome Canary installer through Wine, but it showed an Internet issue. I have Wine 4.0.2 and my OS is Linux Mint. There is no terminal output when run through the terminal. It runs fine, but the only issue is it says it is not connected to the internet. I have confirmed the computer is connected to the internet, but the installer says it is not. How do I fix this?

Hi all, has someone managed to install and play Black Dahlia on an Ubuntu system?
More than a year ago, I was able to install it, but the game was crashing right when you begun to play (pointer issues, frozen screen)... So I just gave up and then tried again yesterday... This time I am not even able to install the game because of "insufficient disk space" (!).

My computer details: intel core i5-3230M 2.6GHz*4, Memory 5,6gb, Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
I have tried this using Wine 4.0.2

Anyone can help? Thanks!

Wine Help • Crestron Toolbox crashes with C++ Runtime error

$

Hi,

I'm trying to get Crestron Toolbox running under wine. The program installs and starts up ok but when I try and use any of the main parts of the program it crashes with a C++ Runtime error.
Screen Shot 2019-11-10 at 11.11.21 AM.png
This is what I get in the console right after it happens:

CODE:

0034:err:ole:marshal_object Failed to create an IRpcStubBuffer from IPSFactory for {00000126-0000-0000-c000-000000000046} with error 0x800040020009:err:ole:ClientIdentity_QueryMultipleInterfaces IRemUnknown_RemQueryInterface failed with error 0x800040020009:err:ole:typelib_ps_CreateStub Failed to create stub, hr 0x8002802b.0009:err:ole:marshal_object Failed to create an IRpcStubBuffer from IPSFactory for {bbb28820-0e0f-462e-8b61-5152671ea8c5} with error 0x8002802b0034:err:ole:ClientIdentity_QueryMultipleInterfaces IRemUnknown_RemQueryInterface failed with error 0x80004002
I am running wine-4.0.2 from the wine-stable homebrew cask in a 32 bit environment.

One thing I noticed is that the installer wants me to install .NET 4.6 even though mono should be providing this functionality. The .NET from the installer fails but after I install it with winetricks the installer skips over that part. I don't have much experience with wine so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Wine Help • Installation of Indeo codecs fails on Wine 4.0.2, Linux Mint 19.2

$

I'm trying to install the Indeo codecs so I can run Battlezone without getting errors in the singleplayer menu:

CODE:

winetricks icodecs
(I'm running this on a fresh wineprefix, with no other software installed)

The first installer it brings up works fine, but the second one (iv5setup.exe) gets partway through the installation process then brings up an error dialog:

"The file C:\windows\system32\Ivfsrc.ax failed to self register. This could be caused by a corrupt registry or by corrupt or improperly installed DirectX Media runtime libraries."

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this? I saw a few threads from around 2010 relating to this issue, so it looks like the issue has been happening for a while.

macOS • Debugging windows apps in wine from the perspective of the application author

I'm the author of a windows app. Many of our users choose to run our app with wine on mac/linux (although mac is the focus right now which is why I'm posting here).

What setup is best (or even feasible) for debugging windows apps running with wine? Is an interactive debugging session even possible? Or am I stuck with writing out copious log entries forever on end?

I'm having trouble playing the Nova campaign missions. It keeps crashing and the B :?: lizzard crash handler pops up with the message "core: out of memory". This seems to only affect the Nova missions. I can play vs the AI just fine, and I can play Wings of Liberty missions just fine. Any ideas? There is lots of stuff spewn on the console but I have no way of knowing what came from Starcraft2 itself and what came from the Blizzard launcher.

Wine Help • SDL Trados Studio

$

I'm professional German-Polish translator. Because Micro$oft will stop support for Win7 and I HATE Win 10, I'm looking for alternative. I've installed Ubuntu 19.10, then WINE, and tried to install SDL Trados Studio 2015. Unfortunately, it doesn't work I can;'t install it because I've got a message "Prerequisite check for system component Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 (x86 and x64) failed with the following error message: "Installation of the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 is not supported on this operating system. Contact your application vendor". But NET Framework 4.5.2 was installed through Winetricks. I think, it will be very good, if Trados (and other CATs) will be supported by WINE…
