Wine Help • Database reader was working - now crashes

A year ago a friend wrote a program in Visual C++ to read an external SQL database. It worked great under Wine 2.0 in Linux and MacOS. For the Linux version I created a wine prefix using wine tricks and for MacOs using winebottler. For both it was running in a WinXP 32bit environment with the addition of 'mdac27' and 'vcrun2015'. I had this program installed on multiple machines. Everything was fine for most of the year until recently when all installations stopped working. The program stops with a message that there was a serious problem. The backtrace.txt is as follows:

I tried recreating the prefix with the latest version of winetricks and winebottler but the results are the same. What has changed in a year to stop this program from working? The native windows version still works so that should rule out a problem with the database being read.

Nvidia Geforce Now says "NVIDIA installer failed" when I try to run it using wine. Here is the log from wine in my terminal:

macOS • Starcraft is extremely slow now...

So i recently got myself a mac (yay) and wanted to get some old windows games to play with. So, got my starcraft discs out, installed both the original and brood war, patched it up to 1.16 and now its extremely slow for some reason. The sound also cackles a lot and the screen glitches out every 10 seconds or so. I know starcraft used to work with v3 of wine on linux (haven't used wine in a long time). Apparently when it's not in full screen it's fine but i for some reason, i can't get virtual desktop to work. These are the only 2 error messsages i get so here you go

Hi,

when I open the advanced controls window with any Arturia demo plugins, and change some settings, after a while the audio stops in an infinite loop, crashing Reaper and Jack audio server. I need to restart my PC. One Program Error message is appear..

Hello guys,

I've been looking for so many ways to get Power BI to run on Linux, but without success so far.
Wine would be a perfect solution (if it worked), since having Power BI running on a virtual machine is not that efficient - and I got a reasonably good hardware...

Does any of you know if this is something the team is looking into? I'm sure this would be a game changer, as data related areas are growing exponentially.

First i installed road to hill 30 and that worked fine, can play the game and working fine. After that i installed earned in blood. Android • Local storage doesn't appear

There is no problem on setup and working of wine (4.20) but local storage of my phone doesn't appear. There is no file, no folder... Changing of "Drive" settings in "winecfg" didn't work. I tried all of versions of wine. All have the same problem. Is there a solution for this?
My phone is Xioami Redmi note 6 pro (1.80 ghz - 8 core, 4gb ram, 64gb storage) with Android 9 and miui global 10.3.6.

Wine Help • Irfanview in Wine cannot open graphics files

Installed WineHQ in Linux Mint 19.2 in a dual boot desktop (Windows 10). Then, installed Irfanview from snap, but on opening a graphics file with Irfanview, the message says that does not recognize the header. This applies to either .jpg and .png.
The images are stored in a NTSF drive mounted by fstab, and they are read and write. Copied them to the local Linux Pictures folder, but the problem is the same. Other graphic apps in Linux have no problem opening these files wherever they are stored.
Also, the /media folders are invisible to the Wine File Explorer. Is it because admin rights? Essentially, I don't yet know what I am doing.

Hi,

Using 4.20 wine-staging (Windows 7, 64 bit) and the now freely available original StarCraft (with 1.18 patches) from here:

Battlenet is getting installed fine when running:

Battlenet login also works, but after that, at the StarCraft installation screen, the Install button does nothing.

Linux • Application uses non serial USB

Hi,
I would like to run an windows Application thru wine. I installed wine 3.0 from Ubuntu 18.04. I launched winecfg and installed MFC42 DLL.
Now, main application menu starts. But these app. needs an USB device (an electronic board driven thru USB) which it not detected.
I checked that this is not a serial com. When USB is plugged, linux never creates /dev/ttyUSBx neither /dev/ttyACM.
One entry is created on /dev/bus/usb/003/001, depending on the USB plug.

On a true Windows, these application needs a driver for that USB. How to tell wine to recognize that port ?

Linux • Windows service/console program does not exit on page fault

Hi

I have never never asked a question on Wine Forums and have only used wine a few times although I have played with it from time to time over the years.

I am trying to run a windows service in a wine text only console. This is in a docker container and is working fine but occasionally has a page fault
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x1000697a (thread 00e4), starting debugger

This is not a problem in itself as it occurs only once in a while. The issue is that if it page faults, it does not exit so that it can be detected and restarted but instead spits out the error and tries to launch Debugger window, which offcourse fails since it is text only. At this point it just hangs and never actually exits. This means it is never auto-restarted.

The Question is . . . . Is there a way to turn of this debugging feature so that when this page fault occurs the wine program just exits. It would be nice to dump debug data before exiting but it NEEDS to exit or the service will never recover.

I am trying to run Winlink Express, Telnet connection,
On Linux Mint.
Winlink Express version: 1.5.25.0
Linux Mint: current as of today (11/26/2019) 19.2 Tina
WINE version: current stable as of today (11/26/2019)

I have used the WINE setup to enable all of the Winlink Express .exe files under Win 7, then Win 10, then global. Yes I tried all three.
With Mint showing a good solid Internet connection, I used WINE to connect to the Internet using Internet Explorer from in the WINE Windows files.
But with Mint showing a good solid Internet connection, every attempt to initiate a Telnet connection from Winlink Express displays "unable to connect to CMS, no Internet connection"

Problem - how to have Winlink Express recognize the Internet connection

I am trying to run 'luxriot VMS client software 2.5.11 (client side only)' on wine-4.0.2.
This is a client video surveillance application, I already have a server part running on windows.
During installation, the client asked for mfc42.dll - I got it through winetrics. Then VMS client was installed and started.

But instead of showing a picture from cameras, VMS client writes an error:

I already found dll with codec, and tried to manually register it:
wine regsvr32 DVRCodecsF.dll
Regsvr said that the dll is registered, but it did not help me.

Please help me!

Linux • Irfanview in Wine cannot open graphics files

Installed WineHQ in Linux Mint 19.2 in a dual boot desktop (Windows 10). Then, installed Irfanview from snap, but on opening a graphics file with Irfanview, the message says that does not recognize the header. This applies to either .jpg and .png.
The images are stored in a NTSF drive mounted by fstab, and they are read and write. Copied them to the local Linux Pictures folder, but the problem is the same. Other graphic apps in Linux have no problem opening these files wherever they are stored.
Also, the /media folders are invisible to the Wine File Explorer. Is it because admin rights? Essentially, I don't yet know what I am doing.
