Linux • BS_SPLITBUTTON style for standard windows TButton not working

$
0

hi, i'm all new here, so i hope i'm not creating a topic for something long known. I've been searching the forums for the term BS_SPLITBUTTON with no luck so i'm creating this topic. I'm a Delphi Developer using Delphi XE10.3 and recently i've been playing around with Wine 4.21 staging on Linux Mint 19.2 64bit. I'm quite blown away that my windows applications runs so easily on Linux. I only have one issue i can't seem to figure out. The standard windows TButton control can be configured to use 3 different styles. 1. Pushbutton which is the standard style and works fine in Wine, 2.SplitButton which uses BS_SPLITBUTTON, BS_DEFSPLITBUTTON as style and is available only from Win32MajorVersion >= 6 and 3. Command Link which uses BS_COMMANDLINK, BS_DEFCOMMANDLINK as style and which is also only available from Win32MajorVersion >= 6, both of these last styles do not work in wine and are drawn the same way as the standard button style as soon as i configure wine to be a newer windows version then windows 7. If i leave wine as windows 7 or even vista, all styles work just fine but as soon as i set it to windows 10, they don't work anymore. I tried using gtk3 theming too with no luck either. Except from that i have no issue going on. I attached 2 small images, one showing the splitbutton in windows 10 x64 as it should be and one showing the exact same button in Linux on Wine with wine set to windows 10 (resolutions are not the same as LinuxVM runs scaled whereas windowsVM does not). Is there any known solution to this issue or maybe just a configuration to make other than using windows 7 which is what i'm doing now for the time being ? It's not really an issue as it can easily be worked around, i just would like to understand why this happens as my futur windows developments will keep an eye open on how my windows apps perform on wine.

Linux • Cheat Engine - crashes attaching to app?

$
0
0
I've been attempting to use Cheat Engine 7.0 to assist in some modding (namely, to use DLL Injection to enable the ingame console for a game which doesn't otherwise allow it), but I've been having a fairly consistent crash when trying to attach it to the process in question. I'd been assuming that it just Wasn't Going To Work At All (and was prepared to admit defeat), but for some unknown-to-me reason yesterday, it started working without any obvious changes on my end, for a good hour or so, though multiple launches of the game in question. Even the DLL injection worked great. I then took a few hours' break to have dinner and run some other errands, though, and when I got back, it was back to the crashing behavior.

For some further details, the game itself was Borderlands 3 (via Epic Games Store), being run via a Protonified Wine install provided by Lutris. I'd been launching CE with the same environment vars that the game was using, including WINEPREFIX, which presumably works fine because it sees the proper processes and even worked perfectly for awhile yesterday. Rather than continuing to try launching the game constantly, I've taken to trying to attach CE to the EGS process itself, which is crashing CE in the same way, so at the moment I'm not even trying to attach to the game itself. I did try attaching it to some other processes running inside the same WINEPREFIX (such as a running "winecfg" process) and that did work fine - CE attached properly and I was able to browse memory and the like. So clearly it's at least partially working, maybe related somehow to executable size or something? Though I'm still mystified as to why it started working for awhile without warning yesterday.

When CE crashes, the terminal where I've launched it gets a bunch of these:

CODE:

011c:err:dbghelp_msc:pe_load_debug_directory Got a page fault while loading symbols
But possibly the more relevant error might be this one:

CODE:

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x7fbe9c920008 at address 0x7bc80dab (thread 0168)
One thing that I do still have in place is that I've done a "setcap cap_sys_ptrace=eip wineserver" on the wineserver in question, which I've heard might be required in order to allow CE to peek into other processes' memory, so that's been set up for some time. I've also read about the possibility of setting /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope to a lower security level, though I wouldn't be fond of that as a long-term solution. I'd tried it out briefly anyway and it didn't seem to make a difference.

One potential culprit which was brought up in IRC when I asked there was that I could potentially be running into weirdness related to address randomization, which might certainly go a long way to explaining the oddity of having it work totally fine for awhile yesterday -- I'd be especially loath to turn that off, though.

I've also noted that CE's behavior otherwise isn't always 100% predictable - occasionally while testing this I'll start up CE but it'll not actually start properly, and sometimes rather than an outright crash it might freeze for a bit, leaving a non-updating window in its wake that I have to kill from the command line. So it's seemingly not entirely predictable overall. Anyway, if anyone else does have more experience running CE in Wine, I'm all ears. Thanks!

I managed to get the game running (although at 30fps so far) but the game isn't detecting any input from my keyboard or my gamepad.

Using xboxdrv to emulate my generic gamepad as a xbox360 one, I was also messing with different settings for xinput libraries in winecfg but that didn't work either. I also tried using the SDL2 gamepad tool to set the environment variables but that also didn't work.

I tried running Naruto 3 and that worked fine (played a couple of 1v1 matches with 2 gamepads). Any tips on what I could do next to get it to work?

Dxvk version: v1.4.6-1-g1ae7d4b30

Linux • Which Windows native DLLs to use and NOT use

$
0
0
Hi,

I read that you may use Windows native DLLs with Wine. I have experimented with this, creating symlinks to the native DLLs files in my ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 directory (I have my actual C: drive mounted at /nt).

I found this application very useful:
http://www.dependencywalker.com/
It runs fine on Wine.

I discovered that using some native DLLs seems to improve application compatibility with Wine. However, I also discovered that using some DLLs, notably userenv.dll creates more problems than it solves.

Therefore, I am looking for feedback about which Windows native DLLs are worth using, and which ones I should definitely avoid.

Is there any reason to back up Wine DLLs before replacing them with Windows ones? It appears that many of them are just "stubs" or "placeholders" or something, because they are only a kilobyte or two in size.

Regards,
Albert Wik

Linux • CLIP Studio Paint -- No online features

$

I have been using CSP to draw for a while, and it works mostly fine. It does have some stability issues and can crash when moving windows around.
But the biggest issue is that it seems unable to go online at all, so I can't log into my account, download new materials, register it online or use some other of the features it offers that require internet connectivity.

I run it on ubuntu 19.10 with wine 4.20, with msvc100 installed and all the other items listed at https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=38481 (although just msvc100 makes it run just fine)
First install dependencies:

winetricks corefonts vb6run vcrun6 wsh57 fontsmooth=rgb vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 vcrun2012 vcrun2013 vcrun2015 vcrun2019 dxvk

Then before you install Clip Studio Paint, change Windows version to Win8.
Even after installing the rest of the dependencies, it still does not go online, I am not sure if I am just missing something or if this is a bug that should be reported.

I have been desperately trying to do a deep dive to pinpoint exactly why this application isn't running in wine and I *think* I can't escape the 2GB limit. I have become stuck and am looking for a little help. I am experimenting on a virtual machine in ESXi and have tried each version listed on a new Ubuntu 18.04 instance. I feel like I am missing something. I can watch the memory on htop creep just above 2GB then it will stay there until the application crashes.

The error on the gui dialogue is:
Out of memory (requested 2548 KB).
footprint 809633507 KB
I have been assuming this is miscalculating b as kb as this would be 809GB
